Kitchen Upgrade

5 Kitchen upgrade

Usually kitchen renovation project consists of the next stages:

  • Before
  • Planning and budgeting
  • "Building a dream"
  • Clear bills
  • References
  • Galleries

Before.

You have to take into consideration what's next for your kitchen renovation:

  • Floor. Sometimes you have to change your floor. Figure out floor type you wish to get (tiles, hardwood, linoleum etc.) Tile floor is strongly recommend. There are tons of different colors and shapes on the market, you always can find material you’d love in. Take two-three samples with you and check how it looks like in YOUR specific kitchen room. Check it in both day and night times. Second: if you are going to change cabinets’ placement radically and your floor was done after old kitchen has been installed please assume, that old floor doesn’t exist UNDER old kitchen cabinets!!!

(See sample picture)

  •  Garbage management.  Yes, this is important. Nobody recognizes but a kitchen renovation project creates 3-4 cubic meters (!) of various construction garbage. Best option - to rent a bin. Couple hundred (360-575$) - and you are free from your drive way troubles with garbage: where to place, how, for how long, how to get rid of it and so on. Anyways YOU pay for garbage removal, this way or that way, you remove or we take care of it.
  • Geometry. Assume that there is no a single room in this world which is rectangular/square. Sometimes you get a gap in very unexpected places. And yes, according to Murphy’s Law it is going to be right in the middle of the most visible place. Sometimes we need to use additional cover panels to hide side gaps.
  • IKEA. We work with IKEA mostly. Some reasons why:
  1. IKEA uses the best drawings and sliding out systems.
  2. Hinges and hardware is made by BLUM - Austrian world leader in furniture parts manufacturing.
  3. Cabinets and parts are always available.
  4. Delays do happen, but rare. (Yes, it happens during semi-annual sale events!)
  5. Best logistic and delivery
  6. Best customization and on-line PLANNER is less expensive comparing to custom built cabinetry

 Planning and budgeting.

At Serg Commercial we believe in team work.

We design your custom-made kitchen based on your specific needs and wishes. We position of the cabinets and appliances; fixture placement; figure out color scheme, and try to match everything.

You choose the style of your counter top, cabinetry, back splash, wall colors and floor tiles, counter top color and type, doors color, back splash color and type, wall paint and floor tiles.

The customer gets a copy of the design and a list of the work to be done.

Then we determine total project budget and time frame. (A typical project takes two weeks from cabinets delivery to completion. Delay can happen because of stone counter top - 2-5 days max ) All extra works definitely will add some days to our schedule. Everything is being written into a contract.

"Building a Dream"

The construction process begins with demolition of your old kitchen cabinetry. We break the old cabinets move them to the rented garbage bin (or your garage). Then we have to make final overview of opened space. If nothing changes the plan – we begin cabinets assembly and installation. Usually it takes from two to three days to complete cabinetry.

After the bottom part of kitchen is finally mounted we make measures for stone (granite/quartz) counter top. We require some pre-pay on this step. Usually 1 k$ is enough. Standard waiting time for counter top is 5 business days. It means 5 days from measurement moment to completion. We highly recommend to order the stone slab in advance to eliminate waiting time. If slab is available in the store and ready, you can get it done in two days after we took the measurements.

***Important about granite: if you chose granite as material for the kitchen you should spend a couple hours of your time to visit the shop. Look on “your” slab and check all stone veins and stains. Choose better part of stone for you. Granite is NATURAL material and every slab is 100% unique. It gives you possibility to get very attractive piece of stone. In the other hand, slab can contain unwanted parts, ugly stains and discolorations. Check it yourself! Choose yourself and never skip this step!!!

***Granite vs Quartz. Both are stones. Granite is natural rock sliced in pieces. Every piece is absolutely inimitable. Granite is cheaper than quartz. Quartz is man-made-stone-a-like-material. When you choose quartz, you are 100% sure that you get THE SAME on the kitchen.

Once the counter top is installed, the customer will pay the balance for countertop according to the schedule plan. From this moment the project requires three-four days more to finish. This is time to install back splash, make minor works and paint the room (walls and trim) in desired color. (See pictures: "Just remove masking tape!")

Clean bills - long frendship! After project complete you compensate unexpected expenses (if appear) and pay off the rest according to contract schedule.

***Project cost calculation sample.

Taxes on top: 780$
